Zelkova occurs as genus of hexad mintage of deciduous trees in the elm family Ulmaceae, native to southern Europe, & southwest & eastern Asia. It alter around size from either shrubs (Z. sicula) to big trees as much as 35 m tall (Z. carpinifolia).
A title Zelkova derives from either a native title of Z. carpinifolia in one of a languages of the Caucasus.

A Sicilian Zelkova Z. sicula, just found within 1991, is listed as an endangered species. the merely known people is a little total of moo bush suffering from either severe overgrazing; the natural matured size of undamaged specimens is unknown.
Zelkova serrata & Z. carpinifolia come fantabulous cosmetic trees.
A genus Zelkova was green throughout North America and Northern Europe as late as a Pliocene. Still, extensive Pleistocene glaciation has confined the genus to its present range to the south of the Alps and Pyrenees, and within East Asia where only local glaciation occurred.
